Gotham Books - 2004 - (Hard Cover - W/Dust - Jacket) - Used - Very Good - (Plus) -

When wealthy Mississippi cotton planter Isaac Ross died in 1836, his will stipulated that his Prospect Hill Plantation be liquidated and the proceeds be used to provide the wherewithal for his slaves to return to the newly established abolitionist colony of Liberia, West Africa. However, the will was challenged by his heirs and the court battle went on for a decade. In the mean time, the slaves rebelled and burnt the mansion to the ground. The leaders were caught and lynched. Finely, the court upheld the will and the slaves emigrated to Liberia. This did not set well with the native population and it set-off a cultural conflict and civil war that continued to about 2006.
