One of America's premier literary giants - Mr. Lerone Bennett, Jr's book, "Before the Mayflower: a History of Black America, 1961, was given to me to read, at a very young age, by one of my aunts. As a young man, straight out of the South, having been denied books of this sort, it was exhilarating to finely have my eyes opened by Mr. Bennett. Thank you Sir! (A must re/read for every body). In this volume, Mr. Bennett tells the truth about Mr. Lincoln and the Emancipation of slaves. He says that, "If Lincoln had had his way, Martin Luther King, Jr., Oprah Winfrey, Jesse Jackson, Clarence Thomas and even I, would have been born in slavery."
